Stay and Place

When we first started teaching this skill, it made my dogs uncomfortable, because they weren’t really sure what we were asking of them. But with clear boundaries and consistency they catch on fast. My dogs would tell you, the steadier you are, the faster the rewards will come.

It’s a tall order, but it is also teaching steadiness and patience. In reality not a difficult skill to teach but one that requires consistency and good timing. Once Place becomes a skill, you can work on the steadiness and patience in new environments.

Many of you marvel at Noble’s ability to Place when he is at the store on his bench, tempted by treats and humans and puppies. Many of you are in awe of Larky and Fe as they show off their steadiness and skills without leashes, eagerness to please and quickness to listen.

When you’re training a dog, the moments may seem long, but a few months of hard, consistent work and you have a skill you can build off of and a dog you can enjoy for a lifetime. With a strong foundation you can build upon.

Time to acquire some new skills of our own. A test in steadiness, trust and patience.

For us, being classified as essential business brings added responsibility.

We take that role seriously and are here to serve you, your pets and our community during this time!

While we’re open for essentials it’s not business as usual for us.

We have adjusted our hours and staff to accommodate recommended safety standards and operate based on essentials.

Here’s how we can help you with your essentials during this time.
